The Verdict, a documentary by Pieter Fleury, about the judges' training course in the Netherlands, was broadcasted by the VPRO on April 14, 2011, 23:00 h at the Holland Doc slot, Ned 2.
After a strict selection procedure, the graduate law student from Leiden, Ouafae Bahi, is admitted to the judges' training course, a six-years further study. During her first pratical period in the criminal section of the court in Zwolle, she is already requited to write verdicts and to defend her opinion in discussions in chambers. That is where decisions are taken. At the course in Zutphen she is told how to do this: "Whether you like it of not, you have to decide." Will Ouafae stand her ground? And how will she herself be judged after the first six months?
